As you work your life away in the office, there are things you tend to do to pass time. But did you know that some of those things are harmful habits that can destroy your smile? Well, it’s true. If you do the following things at work, your smile is in grave danger:
Use your teeth as tools
If you tend to use your teeth to open and cut things, like paper, tape, and packages, it’s time to stop. Using your teeth as tools can chip away the outer layer of your teeth and it can fracture your chompers. Instead of using your teeth to do the job, use the handy office tools available.
Chew on pens and pencils
Chewing on pens and pencils can wear down the edges of your teeth and can cause toothaches and fractures. The best thing to do is avoid this habit as much as possible. To satisfy your chewing desire, you can chew on celery and carrot sticks throughout the day.
Sip on your cup of Joe all day
Whether your cup of Joe is coffee, a latte, or soda, it’s best to keep from sipping on it all day. Sipping on your beverage can cause bad breath, dry mouth, tooth decay, and tooth discoloration. The best drink to consume is green tea, and it can even give you a caffeine boost! If you absolutely have to have your coffee, do your best to skip the sugar and drink a glass of water after you finish the beverage.
Take a smoke break
As you may already know, smoking can cause oral cancer, lung cancer, tooth loss, and gum disease, so it’s best to avoid this habit altogether—even if it’s with e-cigarettes. If you need help kicking the habit, please feel free to talk to your dentist for tips.
Leave your toothbrush at home
If you want a strong and healthy smile, the best thing you can do is clean it throughout the day. So, keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in your office drawer and brush after lunch and snacking.
